Old Testament

Obadiah

Obadiah, one chapter, reproaches Edom,
As, during Judah's invasion by Babylon,
It joined in the destruction of Jerusalem,
And gloatingly took part in its demolition.
For this judgement is pronounced, to come from God's hand,
Though Edom's Judah's neighbour, God'll not spare its land.
Edom was founded by Jacob's brother Esau,
And their ancient antagonism is still raw.
Its people dwell in high rocky places proudly,
But God states He'll bring them down, the wise, the mighty!
The book, shortest in the Old Testament Canon,
Ends with God's promise of Judah's restoration.
