New Testament

Acts Chapter 7

Speaking in his defence, Stephen, very well-versed,
The whole history of the Israelites rehearsed:
"Moses had said: "A prophet like me the Lord'll raise,"
But the people made a calf, idol, in his days.
The tabernacle and Temple 'for God' was built,
But He has earth as His footstool, heav'n as His quilt!
Stiffnecked, ye fight the Holy Ghost - as your fathers!
They slew prophets of the Just One - you're His killers!
The law, angel-giv'n, you've not kept!" From witness stand
He looked up, saw Jesus standing on God's right hand!
"Lord, lay not this sin to their charge!" he prayed, dying,
Stoners' clothes at the feet of one called Saul lying.
