King Herod, vexing the church, killed John's brother James,
Then, seeing this pleased the Jews, jailed Peter in chains.
With sixteen soldiers on guard, Peter slept twixt two,
The whole church praying, for his judgement day was due.
Lo - an angel appeared, loosed Peter's chains and led
Him to the streets, as the jail's gates opened ahead!
Peter had first thought the whole a vision, not real!
He knocked where saints prayed for him. Rhoda, a female,
Answered and ran back to tell the rest "Peter's here!"
They deemed her mad 'till they opened the door, with care!
Herod, enraged, ordered Peter's guards to be slain,
But, hailed a "god", was killed by an angel - too vain!
