New Testament

Luke Chapter 3

John, Zacharias' son, preached repentance to all,
Fulfilling, as foretold by Isaiah, his call.
Preparing the Lord's way, he warned men evil cease,
Baptized them, and urged sharing, fair dealings, in peace.
Men mused if he were the Christ, but "One comes", he said,
"Mightier, the Holy Ghost baptizer instead!"
He reproved Herod's sins, who put him in prison,
But not before John baptised Jesus - and seen on
Him the Holy Ghost descend, in form of a dove,
While "Thou art my beloved Son!" sounded above.
Jesus was then about 30, with His bloodline
Going back through David, Judah, and Adam in time.
