A bishop holds a good post; hence he must be pure -
Faithful to wife, no wine-bibber, no greed; demure,
Teacher, hospitable, patient; ruling his kids -
Can he manage the church whose home is on the skids?
Respected, no novice, lest satan with pride bait,
Deacons likewise - test them 'fore they officiate.
Their wives must be sober; faithful in everything.
Blessed are such men who serve well! I write this hoping
To see you soon, but if I don't, to deliver
Advice on right conduct in God's church, truth's pillar.
God was manifest in the flesh - great the myst'ry!
He was preached, believed on, received up to glory!
