Staying at Athens, we sent Timothy your way
To comfort and establish you lest your faith sway.
For, as we forewarned you, tribulation has come,
And I feared lest the tempter had our work undone.
But when Tim returned, your faith was well spoken of;
He told of your great wish to see us, and your love.
We likewise miss you, and the news was comforting;
We thank God with joy for you, night and day 'fore Him
Praying fervently that He might bring us to you
So we might see your face, and perfect your faith too.
Now may the Father and Jesus increase your love,
Holy when Jesus comes, with His saints, from above.
