Old Testament

I Samuel

First Samuel, three-one chapters, shows Samuel,
Birthed to barren praying Hannah, judge Israel.
He hears God's voice as a child, reared by priest Eli,
Who controlled not his sons - God punished him thereby.
Samuel judged many years, broke Philistines' grip,
But the people still wanted a proper Kingship.
He warns a King will mistreat them, but they insist;
"They've not rejected you but Me!" says God to this.
Saul, chosen as the first King, sins and disappoints;
Samuel, led, a shepherd boy, David, anoints.
Despite jealous Saul, and all the Philistines' strife,
God protects Goliath-slaying David's young life.
