Old Testament

Nehemiah

Nehemiah (13 chapters) recounts his role,
Governor after events in Ezra unfold.
Cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, his face falls;
The King asks why, he says "Jerusalem's burnt walls!"
Commissioned to rebuild them, he works round the clock,
Though local foes Sanballat and Tobiah mock.
The Jews, with a "mind to work", all act as a team,
Working on different parts, but with the same dream.
With work-tool in one hand, a sword in the other,
Each person on the wall looks out for his brother.
When they finish, Moses is read: tears flow at length!
"This day's holy!" they're told; "the Lord's joy is your strength!"
