The elder, to the elect lady and children,
Grace, mercy, and peace from the Father and the Son.
I joyed much to see your own walk in truth, heav'n sent,
And I beg you, walk in love the first commandment.
Many deceivers, antichrist, deny our Lord
Has come in the flesh, but hold fast for your reward.
He who strays from Christ's teachings has not God inside,
But both the Father and Son has he who will abide.
If a man come with false doctrine, take him not in,
Nor bid him God speed lest you partake of his sin.
I've much to write, but I trust to come and see you.
The children of your elect sister greet you too.
