Melchizedek, priest, King of Righteousness by name,
Blessed Abraham in peacetime, taking tithes from the same,
This King of Salem (peace), with no recorded past,
Is, like Christ, priest continually, of high'r class
Than Levites who, in Abraham's loins, tithes supplied,
Whose priesthood's hence below Christ's (from Judah's tribe),
For after Melchizedek's likeness Christ now brings
A new hope, law, and priesthood based on better things.
He who e'er lives can save for keeps, interceding.
Holy, highest, He needs make no daily off'ring -
He sacrificed Himself, and just once, for our sins,
Made High Priest by an oath, not like the old stand-ins.
