Footnote
This third letter of the apostle John is a personal letter to his beloved friend Gaius. The letter's recipient may well have been the Gaius mentioned as a member of the church in Corinth in I Corinthians 1:14 and Romans 6:23, who was baptized by, and a host to, the apostle Paul. Church tradition says that Gaius later became John's scribe.
